The client is one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, and a leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems. A top U.S. exporter, the company supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in 150 countries. The client’s products and tailored services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, weapons, electronic and defense systems, launch systems, advanced information and communication systems, and performance-based logistics and training.
Over the past decade, increased risks in handling sensitive customer data, and looming security threats from hackers outpaced the client’s ability to keep up with the stringent regulatory requirements. At the same time, it needed to develop repeatable processes to mask data so that it could reduce the overall cost of software development. The company was also subject to stringent information security guidelines and privacy laws. To meet these challenges, the client needed a comprehensive Data Masking solution.
Rather than implement one-off solutions, the client decided to setup a data masking Center of Excellence (CoE), or factory, that would establish company-wide processes and best practices and provide data masking as a service to any internal customer. It decided to standardize on the IBM InfoSphere Optim Data Privacy Solution, but needed expert advice on product installation, configuration, architecture and operations.
Estuate faced several technical and operational challenges in the implementation of this complex Data Masking solution. The main challenges to overcome were the strict and highly defined security policies, and a highly segmented and fenced network infrastructure. The client had little experience with a data masking factory and was heavily dependent on Estuate’s expertise in IBM Optim solutions and Information Lifecycle Governance & Security (ILGS) domain expertise.
The solution delivered three completed IBM InfoSphere Optim Data Masking pilots, as well as:
The tangible benefits included better data security compliance, potentially resulting in more successful internal and external audits. The quantifiable benefits include:
We needed to establish Center of Excellence (CoE) for data privacy to enforce best practices of IT architecture, user experience, security policies and standards across the enterprise. This process had never been attempted before. Using a vendor with experience like Estuate helped us overcome these factors before they became obstacles.
