The client is one of the largest aerospace companies in the world, and a leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and defense, space and security systems. A top U.S. exporter, the company supports airlines and U.S. and allied government customers in 150 countries. The client’s products and tailored services include commercial and military aircraft, satellites, weapons, electronic and defense systems, launch systems, advanced information and communication systems, and performance-based logistics and training.
The client relies on a multitude of applications to collect and manage the critical business information that drive daily operations. As business grew, the client needed to update older technology, consolidate and decommission applications, and simplify the supporting IT infrastructure to eliminate redundancy and lower costs.
The client foresaw data growth accelerating and needed to execute a Data Archive & Retrieval solution that could handle it efficiently, maintaining database application performance while providing business users easy access to archived data on demand. There was a need to execute multiple implementations to address both the system retirement and data growth use cases while defining roles and standard processes. Rather than implement one-off solutions, the client decided to setup a Data Archive & Retrieval Center of Excellence (CoE), or factory, that would establish company-wide processes and best practices and provide data archiving as a service to any internal customer. It decided to standardize on the IBM InfoSphere Optim Archive Solution, but needed expert advice on product installation, configuration, architecture and operations.
Estuate delivered a solution built on the IBM InfoSphere Optim Archive tool. It included a complete definition of roles and standard processes for the CoE. The solution:
With Estuate’s proven strategy for archiving historical data, the client was able to efficiently archive and retrieve the historical data, cut costs and support ongoing archiving and compliance requirements. Key benefits will include:
We needed expert advice on setting up a Data Growth/Decommissioning Center of Excellence (CoE) to align with the Information Management (IM) goals of our organization. We are measuring the effectiveness of the CoE framework delivered by the Estuate by efficiencies in terms of IT project delivery. i.e. IT projects are completed faster, with fewer resources because standardized components, common business rules, as a result of best practices defined by the CoE. Estuate helped ensure the success of this project by bringing deep project knowledge and experience to the project, as well as a good working relationship and collaboration with the IBM team.
